Active Older Adults
Build healthy spirit, mind and body: No matter what their
focus, YMCA programs for older adults seek to strengthen the whole person. Socializing and volunteering, for example, have been shown to have positive
effects on the health of older adults, while exercise has proven to promote
mental agility, in addition to longevity and good health.
Offer a place to belong, people who care, and fun:
Older adults say they like the YMCA because it attracts all ages. Many older adults have grown up
with the Y and think of it as a place where they can develop new skills, new
interests, and new friends-in short, where they can enjoy life.
Provide effective solutions to social problems: As Baby Boomers
become older adults, they will flock to organizations that connect them with the
larger society. The YMCA is one place that offers many kids of
connections-whether it's through water fitness, a social club, a volunteer
program, the YMCA helps older adults remain active and vital contributors to our
communities.
